Community-Based Services at Bellewood & Brooklawn

At Bellewood & Brooklawn, we are committed to supporting the well-being of Kentucky’s most vulnerable children and families through a comprehensive range of community-based services. Our programs are designed to provide the essential tools, resources, and support needed to foster self-sufficiency, preserve family unity, and enhance overall family functioning.

Independent Living Program

Our Independent Living Program offers a safe and supportive environment for young adults aged 18 to 21 who are homeless or were in state care on their 18th birthday. This program is designed to help these young individuals transition smoothly into self-sufficiency by providing:

  • Safe Housing: A secure home with expenses covered, allowing participants to focus on their personal development.
  • Career Development: Guidance and resources to explore career opportunities, develop job skills, and secure employment.
  • Higher Education Support: Assistance in accessing college programs, vocational training, and other educational opportunities.
  • Independent Living Skills: Training in essential life skills such as financial literacy, time management, and self-care.

Our primary goal is to ensure that these young adults are equipped to transition from state custody or foster care into independent, successful adulthood. To maintain eligibility, participants must be working toward completing a high school diploma or GED, enrolled in higher education, or employed.

Family Preservation Program (FPP)

The Family Preservation Program (FPP) is a short-term, family-based crisis intervention program aimed at improving parenting skills, enhancing family functioning, and keeping children safe. We recognize that separating children from their families can be traumatic, and our goal is to prevent such measures through therapeutic support and intervention.

Program Highlights:

  • Keeping Families Together: FPP works with at-risk families to prevent child removal and support reunification when a child returns from foster care.
  • Comprehensive Support: We provide tailored interventions designed to meet the unique needs of each family, ensuring children can remain safely in their homes.
  • Eligibility: Families must be referred by the Department for Community-Based Services (DCBS) and reside in the following Kentucky counties: Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, and Warren.

Kentucky’s FPP has successfully reduced re-entry into out-of-home care, accelerating family reunification and promoting long-term family well-being.

Funding for this program is in whole or in part from federal, CHFS, or
other state funds.
